Bruxism, another term for grinding or clenching your teeth, is nothing to ignore. Seeing as the condition can happen during the day or night, with or without a person’s awareness, we want to suggest what to look for. Here are 5 Signs You May Have Bruxism. From the office of Dr. Ward and our team here at Middletown Commons Family Dental, we look forward to meeting and serving you in every way possible. If you’ve any further questions or concerns, by all means, please contact us.
At first, bruxism appears harmless. Some see it as just a noisy habit. The truth is, however, bruxism leads to some very significant problems. Unaddressed, bruxism causes issues with the jaw joint, painful or loose teeth, and fractured enamel, to name a few. Oftentimes, we see patients who grind or clench their teeth unconsciously or while sleeping, resulting in harm done over periods of time and well before it’s diagnosed. Thankfully, we’ve helped many patients treat bruxism using Dr. Ward’s services.
If you are experiencing any of the following signs or symptoms, please call our office:
1. Aching in the head, face, or neck
2. Tight or painful jaw muscles
3. The sound of grinding at night
4. Swelling in the lower jaw or indentations on your tongue
5. Flattened, fractured, or chipped teeth
Just because you are experiencing one or more of these signs does not necessarily mean you have bruxism. It’s important to always be aware, but never self-diagnose. Your safest, smartest step is to make an appointment at our office.
We look forward to serving you soon!
