Dental crowns get their name because they essentially top or cap a tooth. They’re made to look just like regular teeth. They can improve the appearance of teeth, and they can also protect teeth against further damage. At Middletown Commons Family Dental, we take great care to design and fit dental crowns so they look and feel as natural as possible.
Why Would I Need a Crown for My Teeth?
Dental crowns come in handy for many different situations. They can be used as both a restorative and a cosmetic treatment. These are some of the most common reasons why we might recommend a dental crown to a patient:
- To strengthen a weakened tooth
- To fix a cracked tooth
- To restore a worn down tooth
- To repair a broken tooth
- To improve a misshaped tooth
- To support a tooth after a root canal
- To cover a dental implant
- To secure a dental bridge in place
Dental Crown Procedure
To begin the procedure, we will prepare your tooth by shaping it so the dental crown can fit properly. Afterwards, we’ll take an impression of that tooth and send that information to a dental lab. While waiting to get your custom crown back from the lab, we’ll fit you with a temporary crown.
As soon as we’ve received your dental crown, we’ll bring you back to our office so we can place it. We’ll remove your temporary crown and then bond the permanent one to your tooth. Before you leave, we’ll make sure it fits and feels okay and that you have the correct bite alignment.
How Much Do Dental Crowns Cost?
Dental crowns can be made from different materials, and the type you get will affect the price. There are porcelain crowns, metal crowns, and porcelain fused to metal crowns, and each has its own benefits. In general, porcelain fused to metal crowns are the most affordable while porcelain crowns are the most expensive. We’ll be happy to recommend which is best for your needs and budget and what your cost estimate is during a consultation.
Middletown Commons Family Dental accepts most insurance, but even if you don’t currently have coverage, you can join our Discount Savers Plan to help keep your costs down. We also have third-party and in-house financing options available.
